Bald Eagle lands five

JIM Smith has signed no fewer than five players on his first day as Manager of Oxford United.

Jay Smith joins the U's on loan until the end of the season from Southend. The twenty four-year-old creative midfielder is an former Aston Villa trainee who has made 49 starts for the Shrimpers scoring seven times.

Ex-Scotland international Scot Gemmill also joins the club. The 35-year-old midfielder joins as player coach at the Kassam Stadium.

Goalkeeper Andrea Guatelli and left winger Liam Horsted join in a double swoop from Smith's old club Portsmouth. Both have joined on loan until the end of the season.

Guatelli, 21, is a tall keeper who signed for Pompey from Italian giants Parma. The Italian has represented his country at schoolboy level and has been in outstanding form for Portsmouth's reserves as of late.

Horsted, 20, is a trick winger with a strong eye for goal. He joins the U's after a fruitful loan spell at Dunfermline.

Finally striker T'cham N'Toya joins United on loan from Chesterfield. The 22-yeat-old was born in Congo and was top scorer at Saltergate last season. The former Troyes forward has netted eight goals in 22 starts for Chesterfield.
